It’s okay to go a little nuts! Nuts are plant-based proteins and can contribute to a healthy diet. They contain fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are rich in heart healthy fats and have cholesterol lowering properties.
Some people might steer away from nuts because they are high in fat. However, the fat found in nuts is the good for you, heart healthy, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These types of fats may lower your risk for heart disease.
Nuts are also known for their satiety, which is the feeling of being full after you eat. This feeling can be a great tool in weight management. However, when it comes to nuts, portion size is just as important. Nuts are high in calories so it’s important to limit the amount you eat each day. A small handful, about 1 ounce, is all you need.
